Greg Moore

Landstar BCO Greg Moore says he didn’t even stop to think when he saw a woman crash her pick-up truck off of Highway 100 in Keystone Heights, Florida. Moore was on his way home to Moultrie, Georgia after a long haul when he saw the accident happen.

“I watched her crash, and I didn’t think twice, I just parked my truck and got to her as fast as I could,” recalls Moore. He says there was fire and smoke coming from underneath the pick-up truck. He knew he needed to act fast to get her foot out from under the brake pedal and pull her from the driver’s seat.
“And it was just in time,” he says.

Moore pulled the 74-year-old woman out of her pick-up just before it burst into flames.

“I am just thankful that Jesus put me where I was needed to help that woman. All I was thinking about was saving her life. Her life was more important than anything at the time,” says Moore, who believes he did what anyone else would do, given the situation. “I knew there was a life in there, nothing else mattered, but saving her life.”

Witnesses who saw the accident happen said Moore didn’t leave the woman’s side, staying with her until an ambulance arrived at the scene.
According to news reports, the woman he saved, Annie Lee Smith, was hospitalized after the crash with injuries to her arm, foot and ribs. Moore, who kept in touch with her as she recovered from her injuries, says the grandmother of nine and great grandmother to nine, spent two weeks in the hospital and then some time at a rehabilitation center before she was able to
go home.

“She said that she told the paramedics if it weren’t for me, she wouldn’t be here today. I’m so glad I was in the right place to help her,” says Moore.

The BCO, who leased on to Landstar in 2013, has been in the transportation industry for the last 16 years. Moore received a Landstar Platinum Star of Quality, which is awarded in exceptional circumstances and is intended for Landstar’s heroes of the highway who are faced with a life or death situation.

In addition to the Landstar honor, Moore also got his five minutes of fame when a local television news crew from Action News Jax interviewed him about his heroic actions.
