To say that Landstar Owner-Operator Gary Buchs, is a “shining example of all the hard working men and women in the trucking industry,” is an understatement. Gary is not only an example of the kind of person who honors the truck driving profession, he’s the kind of person who shines in every aspect of his life. As a BCO, a mentor, a father, a grandfather, a community member and a friend; simply put and as stated by many of his friends, “The world is a better place because of Gary Buchs.”
When TravelCenters of America announced the winners of the “Citizen Driver” award, it came as no surprise that Gary was on the list. Each driver honored during the Mid-America Trucking Show in March, was selected based on their good citizenship, safety, community involvement and leadership.
Gary’s nomination form for the Citizen Driver award consisted of page after page of praise for the 25 year industry veteran. When Gary started driving for Landstar 11 years ago, it was quickly noticed and noted that Buchs would do anything to help others in whatever way he could.
On his nomination form, Gary’s colleagues listed example after example of his good citizenship, health and wellness, dedication to safety, community involvement and leadership within the transportation industry.
Buchs was presented with his Citizen Driver Award during the 2015 Mid-America Trucking Show. TravelCenters launched the Citizen Driver program in 2013, in an effort to honor hardworking truck drivers who keep the economy going. Citizen drivers not only have a stand-out career in trucking, they are examples of the kind of people who honor the truck driving profession.
As part of the Citizen Driver honor, Gary Buchs handpicked his favorite TA or Petro Stopping Center, which will be renamed after him.
